In Our Hands: Our Climate, Our River, Our Future – talk with Q&A
Leander Club, Henley-on-Thames – 7-9pm
Wednesday 11th June 2025
Doors open: 7pm | Talk and Q&A: 7:15 – 8:30pm | Drinks until 9pm
As part of Great Big Green Week 2025, Greener Henley is delighted to welcome back Professor Christopher Merchant, a leading climate scientist from the University of Reading, for a fascinating and thought-provoking talk at the historic Leander Club. The evening will be led by Olympic rowing champion, Greg Searle MBE, who will guide the conversation and open the floor for a lively and engaging Q&A.
Climate change isn’t a distant threat—it’s happening now, reshaping our planet in ways we can already see. From extreme heatwaves to rising sea levels and disrupted ecosystems, our world is undergoing rapid transformation. But what do these global changes mean for us?
Professor Merchant will take us on a journey from the latest climate science to the risks we face worldwide, the knock-on effects on people, economies, and nature, and the urgent actions needed to steer toward a better future.
With the discussion hosted in one of rowing’s most legendary venues, he’ll also touch on the local implications for the Thames and Henley in our changing climate. What might these shifts mean for the future of our weather and water? How might rising temperatures, shifting rainfall patterns, and extreme weather events influence flooding, water levels and water quality?
