Record-breaking weather attributed to climate change has been a feature of 2023, with high global temperatures widely noted in the media. Focusing on the warming oceans, 2023 and expectations for 2024 will be put in the context of recent climate change.

Looking further ahead, the pace with which Net Zero goals are pursued will significantly determine the trajectory of future global warming.
Humanity must make a choice about what climate future unfolds over coming decades; the question to each of us is what role we will play in determining what choice is made.

Speaker – Christopher Merchant
Professor of Ocean and Earth Observation, University of Reading. Scientific lead for the UK Earth Observation Climate Information Service.
The key expertise of Chris and his team is measuring the temperature of Earth from space, most notably across the global oceans in association with the European Space Agency.
Prior to becoming an academic, Chris worked in the electricity industry and engineering consultancy.
