DESCRIPTION:Stop. Look. Listen. The Earth is Speaking – poetry competition\nSubmit entries by 31 May 2026\nYou are invited to write a poem based on the theme Stop. Look. Listen. The Earth is Speaking. \nWe are encouraging people to tap into their feelings and emotions about the earth and what it gives us. We would like you to use your own creativity and resources to express your thoughts. \nYour poem can be any format : maximum 19 lines. It must be your own original work. \nThere are 3 age categories \n\nChildren under 12 years\nTeens 13 -20 years\nAdults 21 years or over.\n\nThe winners in each category will receive a £20 book token and their poems will be displayed in Henley Library. A prize giving and poetry reading will take place at the Library on Wednesday 10th June at 6pm. \nCLOSING DATE – Sunday 31st May 2025 \nHow to submit your poem\nEmail: as a Microsoft word document to: ruskinsbooks@gmail.com.\nPost: Sue Turner at Candela\, 19 Reading Road\, Henley on Thames\, RG9 1AB\n\nPlease include your name\, age and contact details when submitting your poem. \nA Poetry Reading session at Henley Library will showcase the winning entries on Wednesday 10th June at 6.00pm. DESCRIPTION:Greener Henley’s Big Green Festival\nMarket Place\, Henley – 10am-4pm\nSaturday 6th June 2026\nOur Big Green Festival will be buzzing with lots of different stalls and activities for all on Saturday 6th June from 10am\, and it’s completely free – don’t miss it! We’ll be celebrating all the local action happening on climate and nature. \nYou can visit our Nature Squared hub for free plants to get your own patch of plants for pollinators started\, take part in a drumming and circus workshop\,  or chat with local nature groups – including Henley’s beloved Toad Patrollers – about how we can best support wildlife. Pop to the Bee Friendly Henley stall to find out how to make a bee hotel and paint bees on stones. \nWe’ll have Live bats (shh! Try to be quiet for them) coming along with Berks and South Bucks Bat Group\, plus advice on saving money and energy with Save Energy Co-op \, as well as plenty of Greener Henley stalls to keep you entertained. Our popular Pledge Cafe returns – make a Pledge for the Planet and get a free cuppa and one of our delicious cookies! Find out about some of the local organisations and people who have taken a pledge with us this year – why they did it and what it means to them. \n\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\nJoin Mill Meadows mural artist Vickie Amiralis for creative games related to the River Thames habitat\, test your science knowledge at Will’s Wonderful World\, or visit Brigida the Brilliant face painter\, who will be painting little creatures on little cheeks. This year we have a very special new visitor – the Floodmobile – affectionately known as ‘Flo’. Come and find out about the multitude of simple safety measures you can take at home or work if waters rise. \nThere will be plenty of family-friendly fun and interesting things to find out and do – we’ve got a recycled glass painting workshop this year\, plus we’ll have our giant snakes and ladders game\, and lots\, lots more! \nExplore how you can get involved with protecting and restoring nature locally with Greener Henley – helping to make Henley and our local villages safer\, cleaner and greener!
