SUMMARY:GHWG Session - Holy Trinity Churchyard
DESCRIPTION:Holy Trinity Churchyard \nDate and time: Wednesday 22 January\, 9:30 – 12:30 \nMeeting place: in front of Holy Trinity Church\, RG9 1SE\, SU759822 \nThings to bring: gardening gloves and garden rakes\, the metal ones used for raking soil will be best\, if you have one. \n\nOur main task for this session will be raking up more of the long grass that I am hoping to get cut for us. \n\n\nI hope you will be able to join us at our sessions in January. If you haven’t already done so\, could I please ask everyone who intends coming to work parties to provide the contact details specified in the table below. Procedures relating to risk assessments require these details to be lodged with the Town Council. They state that ‘All information will be kept safe and confidential.’ \n\nPlease contact Lex or me if you have any queries. It would be helpful if you could let us know if you are attending a session to help ensure we have enough tools\, tea\, coffee and cake. Lex works for the Town Council on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. His work mobile is 07508 427026. \n\nIf you know anyone else who may be interested\, could you please forward this e-mail to them. If you no longer wish to be reminded about these sessions\, please let me know. \n\nBest wishes\, \n\nSally \n\nSally Rankin \n+44 07941 207687 \n\n\nGreener Henley Wildlife Group sessions \n\nOur sessions are generally pleasant and sociable occasions. Some of the work is quite strenuous\, but there are always lighter tasks for those who would prefer them\, for whatever reason. We have a break mid-morning when refreshments are provided: tea\, coffee and cake. Please bring your own gardening gloves. Any gardening gloves will be all right for tasks like pulling Himalayan Balsam but heavier ones will be needed for working with brambles. No previous experience is necessary\, and tools are usually provided. Tough clothes and stout footwear are recommended. Marsh Meadows is often wet underfoot so waterproof footwear is recommended when we are working there\, particularly if working in the pond area. Volunteers are welcome to join us for the full three hours or any part of them. \n\n\nIf you intend coming to work parties and haven’t already provided the information in the table below\, could I please ask you to do so. \n\n\n\n\nYour Contact Details\n\n\nName:\n \n\n\nAddress:\n \n\n\nHome phone:\n \n\n\nMobile:\n \n\n\nEmail:\n \n\n\nSignature: \n  \n \nDate:

SUMMARY:The Big Green Conversation: Our River
DESCRIPTION:The Big Green Conversation: Our River\, with speakers + Q&A\nThe Kenton Theatre – 7.30-8.50pm\nWednesday 22nd January\, 2025\nTickets £10 (incl fees)\nBook your tickets \nRiver pollution has been a hot topic in the media in recent months\, but what is actually being done to restore our river’s health? What’s it like to swim in the Thames these days – and is it safe? Can citizen scientists testing the water quality really make a difference? How is local wildlife coping with repeated pollution events\, and is there anything we can do locally to better protect it? \nJoin Greener Henley and a stellar panel of experts who will address these questions and more at our first ever Big Green Conversation in partnership with The Kenton Theatre. There will be ample time for audience questions and answers at this evening of thought-provoking and lively discussion about a VERY local issue! Our panel includes: \n\nDr Imogen Grant – Olympic rowing champion & Ambassador for The Rivers Trust\nLaura Reineke – local activist & Henley Mermaid\nRichard Caines – local river pollution campaigner & WWF International Director\nDr Michelle Jackson – Oxford Associate Professor of Freshwater Ecology\n\nThe discussion will be chaired by Kate Lloyd\, an experienced facilitator and panel host\, and Greener Henley member. \nCome along and join the conversation! Focusing on urgent concerns over our river – the precious ecosystem and habitat at the very heart of our community – we’ll discuss why the river is in such decline\, why it matters\, and what we can do as a community to bring it back from the brink. \nBook your tickets
