The Climate and Ecological Emergency (CEE) Bill Campaign
In November, Greener Henley became a member of the CEE Bill Alliance Oxfordshire. The Alliance is campaigning for Oxfordshire MPs to support the CEE Bill, a private members bill that was presented to Parliament by Caroline Lucas and a small number of MPs this September and is quickly garnering cross-party support in Parliament. Greener Henley agrees with the Alliance that this Bill represents the greatest chance we have of the government taking the action that is necessary to combat the climate and ecological emergency, and so to mitigate its worst effects upon our community.
We have formed a small working group, and we have been working hard to build local alliance partners in Henley. We have also been busy promoting a virtual event to which all six Oxfordshire MPs were invited and at which an expert panel debated the Bill, which took place on Friday 11th December. We have, with the Comms team, created a petition on change.org, asking John Howell to support the Bill. May we ask all Greener Henley supporters to sign the petition (which has been distributed by email), and – if you feel able to – to share it within the Henley constituency. Our Comms team are this week releasing a short video about the CEE Bill and how it will benefit our local community which will be used to help promote the petition.
During 2021, we will aim to build a broad network of local alliance partners (including schools) in the Henley constituency to support the campaign, and we look forward to meeting with John Howell in the New Year to discuss the Bill.
