Turn your outdoor space into a wildlife haven

Giving more space to nature allows for a greater variety of flora and fauna and that means more insects, including pollinators – who help to provide our food and without whom we would be in trouble! The good news is there are so many ways to give nature a helping hand, and enjoy yourself whilst doing it!

  • Take part in Henley’s Nature Squared by planting one square metre of plants for pollinators, whether that’s in outdoor pots, on a balcony, in a garden, or a public space. Every square counts and added together they help to create a living network of habitats that supports bees, butterflies and other insects, strengthening local biodiversity, and creating more space for nature in and around the town.
  •  If you need a bit of planting inspiration browse our guide to Planting For Pollinators, written by Nature Squared expert, Louisa Reeve of BBOWT, or mull over our handy list of suggested pollinator-friendly plants.
  • Have you heard of the Henley Toad Patrol? Check out this group of local nature conservationists who every year help thousands of toads migrate across a busy local road to reach their spawning site. Why not join them on patrol?
  • Come along to one of our Greener Henley Wildlife Working Group sessions and take part in a bit of local nature conservation, managing a mosaic of habitats for wildlife in Henley. There are usually two a month.
