Support local farmers, enjoy fresher food

Supporting local farmers and producers helps strengthen food security as well as the local economy, while reducing the distance food travels. Try to buy British, preferably local, looking for products that have been produced to regenerative standards – it’s still early days for regenerative standards but with time their rigor and use will grow.

  • Head to Henley Farmers’ Market, at the Market Place on the 2nd Saturday and 4th Thursday of the month, 8.30am-2pm
  • Visit local growers of quality produce, Bosley Patch, for vegetables, fruit and flowers
  • Find local honey at Honey’s of Henley, where small batches are produced using traditional, hands-on methods – with every product traceable to its source.
  • Track down a wide variety of fresh, locally produced food and drink with Big Barn’s listing of local producers.

Eating seasonally means fresher, tastier food that’s often more nutritious too. It’s a simple way to cut food miles, support UK growers, and discover new ingredients and recipes throughout the year. With supermarket shelves looking much the same all year round, it’s easy to lose touch with what naturally grows in the UK – seasonal eating helps reconnect us with local food and the changing seasons, whilst also boosting our food security.
